London Analogue-to-VoIP Migration

More than 500 undocumented analogue lines traced, labelled and migrated to a new multi-site VoIP service without disrupting business operations.

The Challenge

The estate contained more than 500 analogue telephone lines with no reliable documentation. The occupied floors were older and did not allow a conventional new-data-cabling approach, yet the client still needed a controlled move to VoIP with multi-site short-code dialling, firewall connectivity and more than one voice provider.

How We Delivered

Trace before changing

Each existing line was identified against its physical path and service use, creating the working record needed to plan batches and avoid disconnecting unknown business functions.

Reuse the viable physical estate

Where new structured cabling was impractical, the existing analogue pairs were reused as the access path into the upgraded voice solution, extending the life of the building fabric while changing the service layer.

Build the multi-site voice service

The team configured the new VoIP environment, inter-site short-number dialling, the required firewall policies and connections to multiple VoIP suppliers.

Cut over in tested batches

Users and stakeholders were coordinated through staged migration windows. Each group was tested before the next progressed, and physical labels were applied so the new service started with the documentation the old one lacked.

Outcomes

  • More than 500 previously undocumented lines traced and brought into the migration plan
  • Legacy pairs reused where new data cabling was not practical
  • Multi-site short-code and multi-provider connectivity commissioned
  • Phased cutover completed without impact to the client’s business operations

Client Outcome

The client moved to a more flexible voice platform without the cost and disruption of opening up legacy floors for wholesale recabling. The new labels and line records also give the support team a reliable baseline for future moves, faults and provider changes.
